Whether you’re a seasoned backcountry adventurer, a side country slayer, or looking to get out on your first adventure, reviewing and testing your skills of the essential equipment is pivotal to returning from an escape to the mountains. Section 2: Tool for the Backcountry - 19min
Section 3: Companion Rescue - 9min
Section 4: Field Companion Rescue - 2hour
The course covers the following information:
Terrain mitigation
How to use an avalanche forecast and weather observations to formulate backcountry travel plans
Hands on work with our instructors and trained professional athletes
Learning the theory and techniques for properly using an avalanche beacon, probe, and shovel
In a controlled environment, simulate single and multiple burial scenarios, learning how to efficiently and effectively locate and extract a buried victim
This course consists of three videos segments followed by a skills test and a companion rescue field session. The 2 hour field session can be completed once the online work has been completed. . Demo beacons, probes, and shovels are available upon request.
