Current Conditions: My partner and I traveled in the Manti Canyon/Six Mile/Ferron Canyon areas on Wednesday. We noted that these areas did not pick up as much snow on Monday as the northern end of the Skyline. Wind also has been taking a toll on the riding conditions in this zone. A rime crust that formed on Thursday, Feb 6 is pretty prevalent in this area. It's either under just a few inches of snow or it's been exposed by the wind and is glistening on the surface. Sometimes these crusts are associated with weak layers and can cause avalanches once they are buried. We will be keeping a close eye on this crust over the next few weeks.
Mountain Weather: We have a couple more days of nice weather ahead with mostly clear skies and highs in the mid 20s today and a little warmer Friday. A storm that originally looked like it was going to slide underneath us to the south is now looking like it's going to impact our area Saturday afternoon into Sunday. At this point, it doesn't look like a huge storm but we might see 5 inches of new snow from it. This storm is going to move in from the south and we'll see some southeast wind from it. The east side of the Skyline may get favored as far as snow amounts.
