Comments
Started the day just after 8am, at the trailhead.
From the trail to about 7500' travel was on a supportable melt freeze crust. Snow started to soften as I moved up in elevation towards the peak. However stout wind board existing on the entire ridge, with the cornices facing West from the east winds. Most of the main avalanche paths had tracks from the weekend. The east was soft about 2" of faux corn. After a nice break in the summit, I dropped in of the main peak, going riders right to another sub ridge just below the peak. No tracks existed in this small feature which is probably 35 degrees at the top. I rode the right hand side in soft cold snow which pitches a little to the northeast. After a few turns a point release started, I kept riding keeping in sight. As it hit the true East aspects it started to entrain more snow and become wider and wider. It became very slow in movement, but kept enough momentum to run half the track. I pulled up to the right side, and watched it creep down the mountain. Finally stopping just above the brush and Aspens, where this path has run multiple times this season. I would estimate 700' it traveled. D1-R2.5, wet loose, running on the dust layer. Continued my run down into the drainage, back into the frozen surfaces, some powder, and pre corn.
The picture is the top of the sub ridge where I dropped in.
