AIARE Avalanche Rescue Course Sharpen your rescue skills and be ready when it matters most. This one-day, eight-hour course is designed for both new and experienced backcountry travelers who want to learn—or refresh—their avalanche rescue techniques through hands-on, scenario-based training.
Led by AIARE-certified instructors with AMGA training, you’ll receive personalized coaching, run realistic rescue drills, and leave with a rescue card verifying your completion date.
What You’ll Learn:
- Companion rescue fundamentals for new participants
- Advanced rescue skills and problem-solving for returning students
- Efficient use of beacon, shovel, and probe in real scenarios
- Organizing and leading a rescue response
- Strategies for continuing practice after the course
Course Format:
- Full Day (8 hours): In Big or Little Cottonwood Canyon (conditions dependent)
- Mix of rescue drills, timed scenarios, and instructor-led feedback
Included: Use of beacon, shovel, probe, and pack if needed. Demo skis and splitboards available upon request.
Prerequisites: None. This course is required for AIARE Level 2 and Pro 1, and AIARE recommends retaking it at least every other year to keep skills sharp.
