Comments
No avalanche red flags identified on ascent. Dug a 140cm pit (to ground surface) on a slope just over 30° facing NE to evaluate sensitivity of PWL. No noticeable wind loading in immediate area. Found upper 100cm to increase gradually in hardness before reaching sugary, faceted bottom 40cm. Performed an extended column test, which did not fail <ECT30. Only after application of ~1/2 body weight (80 lbs) did the column fail on the faceted layer. Isolated 30cm column did not easily fail from 'informal' shovel shear test; again, some body-weight was required. Overal impression was that snowpack has stabilized well at this aspect and elevation, despite faceting 100cm+ below surface.
