Snow Profile Comments
The height of snow in this location was similar to another pit nearby (see bottom photo)
The total HS in this location was 6.5' (197cm). This avalanche failed on an east facing slope 83 °. The slope angle was 40°. We started a snowpit on a lower angle slope on a roll-over above the steeper pitch. We threw snow onto the steeper slope to see how sensitive it was and were able to trigger an avalanche that propagated 50' wide x18" deep and ran 250' down in the flats below. The avalanche ran on a layer of small grained facets and surface hoar on top of a melt freeze crust.
