The avalanche danger is CONSIDERABLE today. Expert level snowpack assessment and route finding skills are essential for avoiding avalanches today. With the current weather outlook, I'm anticipating the snowpack to stabilize and become less dangerous into next week especially in the upper elevations where it has become quite deep.

Special Announcements
State Road 31 through Huntington Canyon is currently open. UDOT will close the canyon between 9am and 11am for explosive testing for avalanches. The closure could last longer if avalanches cross the road and the debris needs to be cleared.
Weather and Snow
Another 6 inches of snow fell in the last 24 hours bringing totals up to about 10 inches in the last 48 hours. Because of the southeast flow during the storm, the east side of The Skyline picked up as much snow as anywhere which is a bit unusual. The wind picked up for a period early last night but it didn't get real strong. The direction was generally south and southeast. It's switched around to a more west direction now.
Expect mostly cloudy skies today with lingering snow showers. Wind will be west to northwest and should remain fairly light.
