Noticed a bunch of Avalanche activity on the front range this afternoon. I think most of it probably happened right after the storm but some of the slides looked fairly fresh so maybe today. The first two pictures are in Hyde Park Canyon at about 8000 feet on SW slopes. Hard to tell size from 10 miles away but they appear to be several hundred feet wide.
The next two pictures are slides in Cherry Creek Canyon. These were not quite as big and looked to be older. I also notice slides in Smithfield canyon and Smithfield dry canyon but I didn't get any good pictures of them.
We did ride upper elevation North and East Facing slopes today around 9500 feet. We found great snow up there especially on north facing terrain. We had a couple of cornices break on us but there were no propagation where the cornices landed. The sun was definitely affecting the snow especially at lower elevations. Great day to be out in the sun and new snow!!!
Also, We talked to a guy who watched a party trigger a large slide in upper Boss Canyon yesterday on snowmobiles. Noone was hurt. The slide was on an east face around 9000 feet (In the box canyon)
