bottom line

We have a generally LOW avalanche danger today. It is possible the danger may rise to MODERATE if daytime heating makes the snow overly wet. Move off of and stay out from under slopes that become really wet and sloppy. Avoid being on or below large cornices.
current conditions

Low temperatures in the mountains overnight were in the mid 20s to around 30 but they are already increasing. Skies were clear for most of the night with some clouds moving through now. The snow surface should have crusted over fairly decently. West southwest wind has increased into the moderate speed range along the higher elevations.

Avalanche conditions are fairly safe right now. There are a couple of things to keep in mind during this time of the season.

  • The chance for triggering a loose wet avalanche increases during the day as the snow becomes wet and sloppy
  • Cornices are large and should not be trusted. They often start to break off at this time of the season especially during warm days.

It looks like another pretty nice day in the hills with sun and some clouds. High temperatures will get into the lo 40s again. Wind will be a bit stronger than on Saturday from the southwest. We'll see partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies and gradually warming temperatures through the week. No significant storms are on the horizon right now.
